Justice in Motion: The Legacy of Thurgood Marshall

February 7th | Black History Fact of the Day

Before wearing the black robes of the Supreme Court, Thurgood Marshall was known as "Mr. Civil Rights"—the nation’s most formidable legal warrior.

As the chief counsel for the NAACP, Marshall argued 32 cases before the Supreme Court and won 29 of them.

In 1967, President Lyndon B. Johnson appointed him as the first Black Supreme Court Justice, where he served for 24 years. Marshall didn't just interpret the law; he used it as a "shield of freedom" to protect the most vulnerable, ensuring that the promise of equality wasn't just words on paper, but a reality for every American

Legacy in Color: Dr. Carter G. Woodson & Omega Psi Phi

On February 10, 1917Dr. Carter G. Woodson joined the brotherhood of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., sparking a partnership that would redefine American history.

At 41, the Harvard-educated scholar wasn't just seeking community; he was building an infrastructure for the truth. By merging his rigorous scholarship with the Fraternity’s expansive network, Woodson laid the groundwork for what began as Negro History Week and evolved into Black History Month.

Today, we bring Dr. Woodson’s story into color—not just to look back, but to remind us that his mission remains the "assignment." We honor a legacy of Black Genius, defiant excellence, and the relentless pursuit of undocumented truths.

Reaching New Heights: The Legacy of Dr. Bernard Harris Jr.

February 11th | Black History Fact of the Day

In 1995, Dr. Bernard Anthony Harris Jr. made history as the first African American to perform an extravehicular activity (EVA), commonly known as a spacewalk. Over the course of two missions—STS-55 in 1993 and STS-63 in 1995—Dr. Harris logged over 18 days and 438 hours in space, traveling over 7 million miles.

A physician, astronaut, and venture capitalist, Dr. Harris utilized his time in orbit to conduct critical medical research, proving that Black excellence knows no earthly bounds. Today, he continues to inspire the next generation of explorers through his work in STEM education, ensuring the pipeline for "Black genius" reaches the stars.
